I am going to Germany later in October (German beer here I come) and will be backpacking around the country, between Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich and all over the Bavarian Alps.
I am hoping that someone can tell me what the laws are, or where I can further research the laws in Germany, specifically, on camping, wood cutting for firewood purposes, fires while camping, etc in the Bavarian Alps. Is it even legal to do camp? To cut wood to stay warm?
Help please.
Jess

Camping outside of any official campgrounds is not allowed in Germany. You'll have a very good chance to get free camping if you stay on private property and ask the owner if you could stay for a a night. Fire on private property is normally not a problem, outside it is !
Firewood can be collected in the woods without any hassles, just don't cut any living trees.
Just a hint, be aware of the cold, you gonna fryour ass off in the alps in october.
