BRAKES!!

I have had some problems with my brakes - but this is now solved. Here is some top tips to help if you develop a leak!!

The brakes are very easy to recondition yourself. The pistons come out the bores easily and you simply clean the bores with very fine wet and dry sand paper (maybe 1000 grit)

Then you place in the new seals (they are simple flat rubber cups.)

You can buy them from Powertrack ltd

http://www.powertrackbrakes.co.uk/

They are very helpful and the cost is only a few pounds for a pair.

The cups pop back in, you bleed the system and hay presto! good as new.

You really do have to remove the wheel cylinders from the vehicle, but they can be done in situ.

If you do remove the cylinder you willl have to slaken off the back plate bolts (about to move the backing plate forwards so you can undo the attachement bolts iat the back of the cylinder (you cant get at them with a spanner to remove unless you do this first!

Good luck.

Powertrack say they can get new cylinders but they are about £90 each..

That's really good news. Maybe Karsten could move this topic to a special section: "Repair Tips for Sugga"

That's right. A good idea. With digital pictures, this can even be more easy to understand.

Ganz richtig.

I want to change the brakepistons and some brake shoes. Right now I am not able to access the brake drums (since the car is rolling from Garage shop to the paint shop and back). Does anyone know the exact Type and number of these parts?

Wheel cylinder

Hi,
The wheel cylinder is a Lockheed 1 and 1/4 inch (231)

The reference number is; KL71499 (217)

I have also found some other numbers; 35707 or 35709

If you contact Powertrack limited they can source some - but I think there is a similar one used on British lorries during the war and these are cheaper.

Please remember that they probably only need refurbishment and this is only a few £'s where a full replacement costs abot £100 per cylinder (very expensive as you have 8!!)

Let me know how it goes

Baz :D

Hi!

Was denkt ihr?
Danke

Hi!
I have seen on C303 Forum, that the Volvo C303 wheel cylinder and the Land Rover 109 wheel cylinder at the same. The Diameter of the bore is the same size: 1 1/4 coll (inch) (31,8mm).
The diameter of the Sugga is the same 1 1/4 inch.
What's your opinion, can I use the LR wheel cylinder in the Sugga?

Thanks

Hi,

I've heard so too. They seem to look pretty much the same. If they turn out to be the same, it would be amazing. Morten once told me, that the brakes are standard components that are still available. As far as I know you just need to make a small adapter pipe over a mounting screw to accomodate for a different mountings screw diameter.

The companies I've contacted so far were not able (or did not want) to help me thou.
