Re: Sugga #443
HEATER
New heater ventilator installed (requiering some adaptor to be machined for fixing).
Original tap was leaking therefore I replaced it with a unit coming fron a London Taxi, allowing to be operated from inside through a cable (similar to choque cable) which I positioned just near the steering column.
I thing Landrover Series 1 or 2 has a similar part which might be a straight fit, but I prefer the London cab one. And it was cheaper (ebay.co.uk).
Below images of original and of replacement including all necessary parts.

SEALS
Seals were a problem from the very begining. Tracking the right parts was tricky.
WINDSCREEN SEAL
ALTYCO - Stefan told me I purchased the very last one. If true I got very lucky...
Installing was dificult and I couldn't get it right unless glued on the glass, working on 30cm length at the time, let it dry clamped, as depicted.
TRUNK
Had no ideea how the original looked like (maybe someone will post an image with that, I'll appreciate).
Replaced with what I thought would fit best. Glued.
HATCH
Original from ALTYCO.
DOORS
Top + left + right replaced by PV444/544 purchased here: http://volvoonderdelen.com/PV444/Rubber ... olvo-1899/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Fuzzies - ebay.com (USA). Easy to form on door contour.
Bottom - I modified the door trim (see images) by shortening it to clear the floor. Installed a metal cover underneath. I used two seals on door bottom, one pressing into the body and the other fixed on the body pressing on to the door.
I glued also a rubber (neoprene self-adhesive) D-shape 8mm thick seal on the doors pressing vertically on door pillars (otherwise it was nothing there...).
VENT WINDOW
Could not find any proper replacement, so originals still there (and allowing water to pour in...)

Re: Sugga #443
BLOWN HEAD GASCKET
Well - this happened. We got it wrong.
Just after finishing the car, in mayden trip, after just 3 km , this accured.
What we did: we assembled the engine following manuals using specified torques. Original bolts were used.
Engine head was torqued several times (progressive) to specifications. Engine cold.
WRONG !
What should have been done: torque the engine progressive when cold, start it, get it warm, retorque !!!
Use the car few km, retorque again.
Replace the original 50 years old bolts with new engine head automotive quality ones (we got these from VW if remember well and cut to size).
Also the head gasket from ALTYCO was not best quality. I had one made locally using a modern metal sheet core (much stronger) + 2 layers of copper as per original (giving same width). Original has a sort of asbestos core. Very weak.
Runned over 1000 km since, no problem. Hope we did it well this time...

FINISHED !
Some images of completed car taken on short trips around Bucharest and on mountain roads alongside ARO M461 (not a copy of GAZ 69 except body !!!).
Grey matt paint as first Suggas were.
Adition of Notek blackout lamp just because I like the object. And it looks good on the car !
